Kim Avey are a duo of singers, performers and deejays.
The project comes to life when they decide to go and visit New York during the summer of 2010, with the objective of finding some gigs to play there.
They talk to their friends L.A.S.E.R. who are excited by the idea and are willing to produce this new project with them.
They all decide that the perfect flavour would be a balanced mix of powerful sound and danceability, a “punk meets electro” experience!
The first beats get finished quickly and the last two instrumentals are completed while they’re already in NYC.
In the Big Apple adrenaline is pumping and the duo meets the international photographer Terry Richardson who decides, after chatting with them, to immortalise the moment with a picture.
After this great souvenir other artists decide to feature them: Assil Diab for the fashion blog Style Defined and photographer Jenna Przybylowski for her own portfolio.
They also participate in the creation of a fashion magazione, PT.C, as models, photographers and designers.
During their three months stay in the city the band gets to play in 10 clubs and at a few private parties, bringing with them their brand new live show and a fresh dj set to follow.
The korean filmmaker Red Choi films their first concert.
Once the last two tracks (Black Neon and New Generation) are concluded the whole EP gets mixed at La Chispa, a collective space located in Treviso, Italy.
In the winter of the same year they are interviewed by DJ Stories, a tv program hosted by Albertino, a legendary italian radio deejay.
“Black Neon EP”, their first work, gets released during their 2011 summer trip to Berlin.
They manage to land 6 gigs in Germany, two of which are located in art galleries.
They get called back for an additional three shows during January 2012.
In Berlin they also meet Maren Demant, a german photographer.
Maren portrays them at the famous Mauerpark perfectly capturing their colourful style!
At their return to Italy they immediately start working at what will become their second album, Welcome to our Jungle!
This work differentiates itself from their first release: it’s entirely home-produced and is characterised by a more exotic sound; it also features two remixes.
It gets released by Tunable Records on online music stores and as a free download in August 2012.
Halloween also brings some surprises with the release of Pump Nite, followed by the single Iconic during Christmas.
These two projects involve eXxo, an up and coming videomaker who directs and produces both of the music videos.
In 2012 the crew expands with Ria, a polyhedric artist who focuses on the creative elements of Kim Avey!
All the artistic aspects that sorround the band (videos, photos, covers, merch and flyers) are all strictly DIY products and stem from the tight collaboration between everyone involved in the project.
Since their debut in 2010 they have played at many locations in Italy such as clubs, squats and events between Milan, Venice, Padova, Treviso and Florence.
As the lyrics of the latest tracks may suggest, they are particularly fond of islands and seas. After three months performing as resident deejays at the 3×1 in Las Palmas (Canary Islands), they are now located and play in Ibiza!
